9th edition Autofest 2017

Welcoming Remarks by Minister of Industry, Trade and Investments at the 9th Edition of  Tanzania Automotive Festival 2016
Saturday 29th October 2016, BIAFRA GROUNDS, KINONDONI

Dear Invited Guests,
Members of the Government,
The Media,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to warmly welcome you all to the 9th Tanzania Automotive Festival, who’s theme is “Defensive driving key to road safety”  - Kuendesha kwa kujihami ndio ufunguo wa usalama barabarani. Allow me also to begin by thanking the Organizers of this event for inviting me, to be Guest of Honour in this national event.

This Festival builds on the success of the past eight events which took place for the past eight years. While I was not able to attend the inaugural event, I am told that it was a success, and that is why we are here again this year. My sincere congratulations to the event organizers and I am looking forward to higher participation than last year.

 Ladies and Gentlemen

This year’s festival theme is based on the premise of “Road Safety” and Industrial revolution in Tanzania.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Communication (MoTC), road accidents in Tanzania are caused by six major factors. These are: bad roads; defective vehicles; over speeding; weak law enforcement; bad driving; and ignorant pedestrians. In addition, pedestrians walking or cycling on the walk ways of side roads are at equally at the risk of accidents and death as those traveling by motor vehicles.

Tanzania is set to become a motoring industry hun in East Africa as interest in setting up assembly plants in the country is on the rise and some initiatives have already been made. Setting up of assembly plants will go a long way towards ease of defective motor vehicles being dumped in the country and Tanzania’s can afford brand new cars at ease.

AutoFest could not have existed at the right time as it sets the basis for partners to meet and interact with one another at a more relaxed atmosphere yet inter link with targeted customers. This gives good platform to showcase new or launch new brands in the motoring industry in Tanzania.

Ladies and Gentlemen
This event will be informative and entertaining while preaching against bad road habits. Auto fest is here for you to enjoy and learn what is new in this highly competitive cutting-edge industry. The show includes exhibits from varied auto industry stakeholders ranging from dealerships, manufacturers, services providers, motorcycles, commercial vehicle bodies, parts and machinery including Government regulatory authorities and institutions.

Ladies and Gentlemen
I am told that this year’s show has taken into consideration experience and feedback from past year and will therefore be more exhilarating. The Awards category will be classified under the different features, giving more exhibitors a chance to excel. Organized Entertainment will also cater for exhibitors wishing to market their products and services besides their exhibition booths. The show will enhance its offerings of "audience-participation, hands-on" events that allow visitors to gain more direct contact with vehicles as well as industry service providers. Lastly, something for the toddlers as this is family oriented show. There is a kids section catering for drivers of tomorrow.
Invited Guests
As we are here to enjoy the festivities of the show, may we leave here with a clear message, based on the show’s theme. The best way to increase road safety, after all, is for all to become better, more attentive drivers, obey road rules. For Exhibitors and general industry traders this is YOUR event there is no other dedicated to you. So make use of it and we as the Government will continue to support such private sector initiatives ensuring AutoFest becomes a reputable motoring event in Tanzania. Having a dedicated ground that can cater for many more activities. As we strive towards “Tanzania ya Viwanda “ we are already a step ahead by having a platform that can assemble all motoring stakeholders for three days and hoping in future will be more days.

With these few words, may I declare the Festival officially opened.
